How To: Acquiring Projects

The interior design world can be slightly competitive at times, but there's no reason it should be! Every person is unique in their design techniques and how they prefer to do business. Not only that, but there are so many different avenues for interior design as well, giving space for everyone! With that being said, if you're new to the design world and are having a hard time picking up projects, we want to share some of our tips with you.

Depending on what avenue of design you're in, word of mouth is one of the best ways to land projects. If people enjoy working with you, chances are they're going to refer you. Whether it's a contractor, client, or someone else you know from a previous project, your work will speak for itself, but making sure the people you work with are happy to be working with you is huge! We would say 95% of our projects are primarily referral from people that we work with on jobs, and that's also something that we (humbly) pride ourselves in.

Something that goes hand in hand with that is networking. Go to networking meetings, open houses (if that's your jam), if you see a job site with people working pull over and chat it up! It's OK to talk yourself up a little bit, sometimes it's even necessary. Confidence is key ladies and gentlemen.

If you are just starting out, or maybe you're even a couple years in, please please remember that it takes time. There are definitely really lucky designers that get all of the projects that they want quickly after they begin. However, most of us have to work really hard to work up to getting the jobs we want. Trust the process, and be confident in the quality of work you're giving.

What do you guys think is the best way to get projects? Let us know in the comments or over on our Instagram @naomiewertinteriors. We have some really fun and exciting projects going on, and we want you guys to follow us through the process! We would also love to hear what sort of blog or Instagram posts you want to see from us. As always, check back next week for another fun post!
